Roy Ellis embodies the enduring appeal of ska and its capacity for reinvention and cross-cultural exchange. Roy grew up in Jamaica, moved to the United Kingdom in his teenage years, and brought his love of ska, soul, gospel, and rocksteady and blended it all into something new.
Roy Ellis has had a major impact on the music we all love most notably with his band Symarip. Emerging in the late 1960s, Roy Ellis and his band Symarip would play a crucial role in propelling Trojan Records forward and ska and reggae in the UK.
